An attractive oasis in a very rugged wilderness area, Wupperthal is an ideal hiking, biking and off-road 4x4 route destination.
Wupperthal was co-established in 1830 by the grandfather of one of South Africa’s greatest poets, C. Louis Leipoldt.
Wupperthal is situated about 75km from Clanwilliam in the remote Tra-Tra Valley, on the border of the Cederberg Wilderness Area along the Cape West Coast.
The beautifully preserved rugged terrain of Wupperthal and the Cederberg draws those who appreciate nature at its most pristine. The mountains and lake offer a natural arena for the adventurer to get stuck into canoeing, water-skiing; abseiling; river rafting, hiking and climbing.
In spring (August-September) the region is transformed into kaleidoscopic carpets as wild flowers burst into bloom following the winter rains.
