The beautiful surroundings offer many outdoor activities such as mountain walking and hiking trails, fynbos (Cape Flora) viewing, bird-watching, fishing and canoeing.
Experience nature at its best by staying on a farm, in a mountain cottage or caravan and camping site. There is kloofing and diving sites into cool, black mountain pools, and mountain walking and hiking trails, the most popular of which is the 4,4km circular Kleinbergie Trail. Along the Riviersonderend, there is a 7km trail. Nature lovers will delight in the breathtaking views over the valley.
Fishing, swimming and canoeing on the Riviersonderend is a must, although you have to provide your own equipment/vessel – and of course there is a 9-hole golf course!
Some farms offer 4x4 trails and also fishing and hunting. The endangered national bird of South Africa, the Blue Crane, is often spotted in this region.
Pop in to the Riviersonderend Photo Museum where a photographic history of the town and surrounds will give you clearer insight into its origins.
