Montagu, a scenic two-hour drive from Cape Town, is surrounded by the Langeberg Mountains and is the gateway to the Klein Karoo on Route 62, reputedly the longest wine route in the world!
Strolling through the village you will see fascinating Cape Dutch architecture, Georgian architecture and historic buildings – there are 14 national monuments in Long Street alone! The village museum showcases history and a medicinal herb garden, along with a profusion of flora and birdlife in Nature’s Garden.
Spoil yourself with a boat cruise on the Breede River or embark on a fun tractor trip to the summit of the Langeberg, 1700km above sea level, where you can enjoy a traditional South African potjiekos. For wine lovers there are 45 wine cellars in the valley producing some of the finest wines in the country. You can also go olive tasting and visit the cheese factories, while there is an outdoor Montagu Village Market every Saturday. Hand feed an alpaca at Alpaca Loom and purchase soft, handspun wool garments.
