During the 1900s, before modern roads, Malagas was an inland harbour for steamboats that transported provisions from Cape Town to Swellendam. Most of the town’s early character remains and it is a popular weekend retreat and holiday destination. The area is home to an amazing variety of birds and the river is ideally suited to many watersports.
