One of the highlights of the winter months in Plett is the Wedge Classic Bodyboarding contest.
Held every year in July, South Africa’s longest-running bodyboarding contest is held at the popular Wedge Beach and draws crowds of holiday makers to compete and watch the action.

The Wedge Beach – as its name suggests – is one of South Africa’s favorite wedging breaks and ideal for the acrobatic manoeuvres that are popular with bodyboarders. The beach also offers various vantage points from which to watch the action.
The very first Wedge Classic Surfing and Bodyboarding contest took place back in 1996. The event took place every year during the 1990s and early 2000s with the last event having been in 2015.
At its height, there were up to 225 entrants almost 30 years after the first event, and after taking a break during the Covid years, the Wedge Classic is making a comeback.
