The Prescient Freedom Paddle, South Africa’s largest surfski paddling event, is held annually on Freedom Day, April 27th, celebrating the country’s history with a 27km race around the iconic Robben Island.
Now in its eighth year, the event has become a flagship paddling event, attracting over 380 participants, from beginners to world champions, across diverse categories such as doubles surfski, singles, S3s, ocean sculls, SUPs and prone boards.
Featuring a 10km short course endorsed by Lifesaving South Africa, it ensures accessibility for juniors and less experienced paddlers.
Beyond the race, the event showcases Cape Town’s natural beauty as a global paddling and tourist destination.
Through the ‘Paddling for a Cause’ campaign, it supports environmental and social initiatives, including SANParks Table Mountain National Park’s Honorary Ranger and Operation Smile.
