The main road is lined with restaurants and boutique bed and breakfasts to accommodate visitors passing through. The rest of Greyton is filled with cute cottages and homes with overgrown greenery and flowers. Every October when the flowers are blooming in peak-season, the area is flooded with visitors for the Annual Greyton Rose Fair.
We were staying in Greyton for a night so that we could wake up early and hike the Boesmanskloof Hiking Trail through the Riversonderend Mountains to McGregor. We decided to stay at The Old Potters Inn, one of the small bed and breakfasts along the main road. The accommodation was outstanding, with a full-service restaurant, a beautiful pool and the friendliest staff.
When morning came, we indulged in a hearty and delicious spread of breakfast at the Old Potters Inn before setting out on our trek. We didn't make it too far past the trailhead until we realized that we had already taken a few wrong turns. After an hour of correcting our path, we were back on track and headed through the valley towards McGregor.
As we climbed onward, the views became more stunning, the neighboring mountains surrounding us. We took a break once we reached Breakfast Rock, sitting down and soaking in the beautiful sight. We didn't take the hike all the way to McGregor.
We were a little pressed for time, so once we got to Oakes Falls and took a refreshing dip in the natural pools, we decided to pack it up and head back towards Greyton. The hike was a challenge and great glimpse into the vast beauty of the Western Cape.
