Some five million years ago, the arid Cape West Coast of South Africa looked exotically different to the way it looks today. The Berg River once flowed here, which was a mighty watercourse that swept all before it. All the creatures mentioned became nothing but fossils, which can be seen at the West Coast Fossil Park, however these fossils might not have been discovered if not for a phosphate mine that started at the very location in 1943.
You can enjoy one of the fossil tours and enjoy a fascinating journey back into the past, thereafter relax at the coffee shop, or have a picnic in the garden area while the kids play in the play park.
