Donkey Trail Calitzdorp

This is a unique slackpacking 26km trail where hikers are accompanied by donkeys to assist in carrying heavy luggage and equipment! It’s a 4-day hike that takes you back in time to discover the Gamkaskloof using footpaths that residents of the isolated valley used between 1830 and 1962 before road access was granted. By doing this trail you’ll be contributing to the donkey rehabilitation program and giving work to guides who are from the local community.
