Ouderbosch to Leopard's Gorge Hiking Trail
The beautiful Harold Porter Reserve has a 6km route that takes you through a variety of fynbos vegetation and has great views of the coastline, shale forests and various sandstone formations. Try and leave before midday to allow enough time to explore the Reserve but also keep in mind the gates close at 6pm.
Prices? R20 for the permit. You'll need to work out transport as this is a one-way walk, which takes about 3-4 hours. The trail is limited to 12 hikers and starts from the Ouderbosch in the Kogelberg Nature Reserve 5km from Kleinmond.
Mysterious Ghost Trail
Many shipwrecks happened along the coastline of the Cape Whale Coast. This 2-hour hiking trail is both eerie and wonderful all at the same time. There are roughly 28 markers dotted along the path and it’s believed that there are two ghosts roaming! The first is a young lady who survived a shipwreck and who later lived in one of the limestone caves (believed to have the voice of an angel) and a sailor that lost his life. Watch and listen carefully, they still roam the area today…
Whale Trail – De Hoop
This popular hike stretches over 55km, from Potberg to Koppie Alleen in the De Hoop Nature Reserve and includes five overnight stops. In season, you’ll see majestic whales and enjoy fauna and flora at its best.
