Grab the family, colleagues or a group of friends and meander through beautiful and undisturbed landscapes on an e-bike. The West Coast National Park is calling. Are you ready?
What is an e-bike?
E-bikes are motorised bicycles that do most, if not all, of the work for you. Also known as electric bikes, they are fitted with small motors that give riders an extra boost, especially over rough or more challenging terrain. Riders can also manually peddle or enjoy a relaxing cycle, thanks to the motor on the bike.
Some e-bikes can clock speeds of up to 60km/h, so listening to the safety briefing given by your guide before the adventure starts is important.
Cycle along beach shorelines, zip past fields of brightly coloured flowers and go longer distances (with less effort) than you normally would on a regular bicycle. E-bikes are also an excellent option if you’re hoping to get a closer view of animals and spectacular Cape vistas.
Most e-bike adventures are led by guides taking you down familiar and new routes. Your guide will explain how to operate the e-bike, what a safe speed is to operate at, and how to enjoy the excursion safely.
Using a tour guide will give you the most value for your rand as you’ll learn new information about the West Coast National Park and you might also get treated to a picnic, depending on which tour you choose. Make sure to check if your fee includes the e-bike rental, a helmet, a meal or snack, and permits needed for entrance to the park.
The best times to cycle through the West Coast National Park
August to September is arguably the best time to enjoy an e-bike tour in this area. Known as the flower season, this time of year should see you whizzing past vast stretches of bright flowers in full bloom.
The West Coast National Park is a beauty throughout the year, though, so do not despair if you’re unable to visit during the flower season.
