As part of Tourism Month celebrations Visit Knysna, the destination marketing organisation for the greater Knysna area, has an exciting roster of events lined up aimed at promoting the destination.
Jerusalema Dance Challenge - Showcasing some of the best tourist locations found in greater Knysna
Some Visit Knysna staff, community members and tourist guides visited iconic spots in the greater Knysna area to be filmed doing the Jerusalema Challenge dance in an effort to showcase the beauty of the destination whilst taking part in a fun viral challenge.
Locations that featured in the video include Cloud 9 Viewpoint, a popular paragliding spot with Sedgefield town in the background; Blackwaters River Lodge surrounded by the beautiful Goukamma River and forest; Brenton on Sea, with the coastline to Buffalo Bay in the background; on the Belvidere Manor lawns overlooking the Knysna Estuary; Millionaires Viewpoint in White Location with the most incredible view over the whole of Knysna town and estuary; and Leisure Isle (suburb) capturing the iconic Heads in the background. A compilation video will be released on Social Media soon.
International Coastal Clean-up Day - Spring Clean Greater Knysna 2020 Edition
On the 19th of September, the 2020 Edition of the ‘Spring Clean Greater Knysna’, initiated by popular local Whale Watching company, Ocean Odyssey takes place. This initiative will coincide with the International Coastal Clean-up Day.
Locals are requested to choose a spot in greater Knysna, gather a team of maximum 10 people and sign up with Ocean Odyssey by sending an email to marketing@oceanodyssey.co.za. Teams are encouraged to spend at least one hour between 07h00 and 15h00 cleaning their dedicated areas on the day.

Pink Loerie Festival - Tickle Me Pink for Tourism
“Tickle Me Pink: Eat, Drink, Sleep, Love, Laugh” is a campaign by the Pink Loerie Foundation that encourages people to book accommodation in the Knysna area during the months of September to November and also go on a road trip in the area, not only to help stimulate the tourism industry, but to also create a cost-effective family trip with exciting sightseeing along the way. The Pink Loerie Foundation also hosts the annual Pink Loerie Mardi Gras & Arts Festival in the Knysna area, but due to COVID-19, this year’s actual event has been cancelled.
Garden Route Guided Walks Weekend - Sedgefield Starlight Stroll
From 24 – 27 September 2020, the organizers of the annual Garden Route Walking Festival, which is usually hosted over the Easter weekend, have decided to host a Garden Route Guided Walks Weekend in celebration of Tourism Month. In this year’s calendar they have included the Sedgefield Starlight Stroll, aimed at exploring the ‘Nocturnal Life of the Intertidal Zone’. This will take place on the 27th of September and will be guided by local guide, Judy Dixon.
“It is the most amazing, unique encounter with nature; join me for a Moonlight Meander where you will meet the fascinating nocturnal inter-tidal life of Sedgefield,” said Judy Dixon from Starlight Stroll.

Tourism Month - Visit Knysna Tourism Month Photo Challenge
To encourage people to explore the greater Knysna area this Tourism Month, Visit Knysna will run a photo challenge from 24 – 27 September 2020, by encouraging locals to show off their daily outings in areas such as Brenton, Buffalo Bay, Rheenendal, Sedgefield or any other location within the greater Knysna area.
To participate in the Visit Knysna Tourism Month Photo Challenge, visitors and locals are asked to go to their favourite place or discover a new favourite, capture it on camera and then share their photo(s) on Social Media using #TourismMonth2020 and #KnysnaTourismMonth for a chance to win a weekend getaway within the Knysna area. Photos which may have been taken before the 24th of September 2020 are also allowed, but sharing on our social media pages will be between 24 – 27 September 2020.
