Wesgro would like to congratulate the cast and crew of Krotoa on its recent award wins. The film has already won nine international awards.
Co-written by Kaye Ann Williams and Margaret Goldsmid and staring Crystal-Donna Roberts in the titular role the film is a must see, and if producer-director Roberta Durrant’s track record with her last feature film, Felix, is to be repeated, it will continue to win many awards.
“The objective of the script was to give Krotoa a voice, because history was written by men. It was important for us in the film to give her voice and that’s what we set about doing,” said Durrant.
“Released in South Africa during women’s month, it is fitting that an important feature film written by women, produced by a women and directed by a women and centres on a story about a woman is screening in South Africa.
“The power of films and the creative industry to help society grow and change, to learn from history, is indeed something to celebrate and support. Wesgro is proud to help create an enabling environment, together with the Department of Trade and Industry and other national and international partners, so that such stories can find their place in the world,” said Cape Town and Western Cape Film and Media Promotion Head Monica Rorvik.
