The South African contingent will be showcasing footwear and handbags of traditional African design.

The show will run from the 16th to the 19th July 2018 at the Expo Centre Norte in São Paulo and is seen as the main Brazilian trade fair for the footwear and fashion accessories sector. Francal, the official event for the Spring-Summer collection, marks the beginning of the biggest sales season in retail.

Acknowledging the importance of export promotion for this sector, SAFLEC Executive Director, Nerisha Jairaj, said “The sector has been prioritised in the Industrial Policy Action Plan and SAFLEC has been encouraged by the Minister of Trade and Industry to promote trade in this sector given the BRICS economic partnership. This was re-iterated at the pre-BRICS summit meeting held recently for export councils.”

Western Cape companies that will be participating include One of Each, WEEF and the FSP collection.

Acknowledging the importance of trade with Brazil , Wesgro CEO, Tim Harris said, “The steady growth of trade with the BRICS countries has allowed South Africa and the Western Cape to diversify its export markets beyond its traditional partners in Europe and the United States. Our trade with Brazil is still largely dominated by alcohol and wine, and such missions will allow us to boost manufactured exports, diversifying our trading relationship.”

This sentiment was echoed by the Minster of Economic Opportunities, Alan Winde, added, “Brazil is the largest country in South America and in the Southern Hemisphere and is the 9th largest economy in the world. The Western Cape is well known for its creative industries, and this is an excellent opportunity to showcase fashion and design in an exciting market which is showing excellent potential for trade growth."

Mr Denan Kuni, Head of Wesgro International Trade, noted: “A key focus for Wesgro is also to facilitate the diversification of exports from the Western Cape, known predominately for its agricultural produce. Western Cape exporters attending the show will not only be able to showcase their products but also learn from the global players in the Footwear and Leather industry."

Wesgro receives its trade promotion mandate from the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape Government.
