Preparations for the popular Knysna Oyster Festival are underway as the scenic seaside town gears for another activity filled festival in the heart of the Garden Route. With the event geared to kick off on Friday, 26 June to Sunday, 5 July 2020, local event organisers and the greater community are busy finalising event offerings - which will span the greater Knysna area - to be collated into the Festival Programme by Visit Knysna.
“We are pleased to announce that a dedicated Festival Coordinator, Andrew Finn, has been appointed,” said General Manager of Visit Knysna, Colleen Durant. As a member of the Knysna Rotary Club, Finn has a wealth of experience in co-ordination, having been involved in hosting the Knysna Cycle Tour for many years.
“Finn will be responsible for managing the operational elements of the festival, including the various applications to participate in the festival programme. He will work closely with Event Managers, local accommodation and activity establishments to ensure a broad offering of activities and experiences during the 10 day festival.”
Oysters will remain the protagonist, with Event Planners curating a midweek programme which will include the popularFlavours of Knysna - and bringing back events like Oyster Shucking, the Waitron Race and Comedy Shows, to mention a few.
The Knysna Wine Festival will take place on evenings Friday, 3 and Saturday, 4 July, with restaurants in and around the town offering specials on oysters, and other unique culinary experiences.
With entries open for the Knysna Cycle Tour and Knysna Forest Marathon, organisers encourage activities and stalls interested in featuring on the school field (the registration, and start and finish point for the races) to ensure their inclusion by getting in touch with WaynePKidd@gmail.com .
Falling into the last two weekends of the midyear school holidays, Visit Knysna encourages visitors scheduling holidays to the Garden Route, families, sport, art and food enthusiasts to book now to experience this annual iconic festival.
