About the event
Poetry in Khayamnandi aims to celebrate Kayamandi culture and history through poetry. Kayamandi is the second oldest township in the Western Cape, established in 1940. Today, Kayamandi has grown to be home to people from all walks of life, with the majority of the population being youth. Poetry allows the audience and presenters to engage on topics that most people are unaware of or open to discussing. This event creates a safe platform for people to engage in day-to-day issues. The event will draw together community, business, youth, community organisations, media and visitors from all over Greater Stellenbosch and the world to celebrate the Kayamandi heritage, diversity, richness, and dynamism.
What to expect
The event has called together people of communities in Stellenbosch, Western Cape to explore the word ‘Citizen’, and ask young and old people what it means to them. What it inspires, and how they think the idea of being an equal citizen relates to local communities, the country, and the wider world. About 12 poets came from across the Western Cape and will explore and express their points of view about being a citizen.
