1. Do I require a PCR test even if I have been fully vaccinated?

Each destination differs in this regard and information is being updated constantly. We recommend that you confirm COVID-19 test requirements with your airline well in advance of departure, as these requirements might change at short notice.

Cape Town International Airport has testing facilities (located landside) open until 11pm:

2. What state of lockdown is South Africa currently in?

South Africa’s National State of Disaster was terminated on 4 April 2022. According to the latest health regulations, there are minor restrictions on the movement of persons through South African Ports of Entry. Should the status change, this page will be updated accordingly.

3. What is the current entry requirements for travel into South Africa?

At present, South Africa only requires proof of full vaccination or a negative PCR test 72 hours before departure, and all travellers are required to complete a health screening form before being permitted entry.

In addition, South Africa still has a mask mandate indoors and gathering sizes are limited to 50% capacity of venues.

4. Is Cape Town International Airport open?

Yes, Cape Town International Airport is open.

5. Are domestic flights still departing?

Yes, domestic flights are still departing. There are no vaccination/PCR requirements in order to board a domestic flight.

6.Where can I get vaccinated?

Foreign nationals can receive vaccine shots at public vaccination facilities. If you have not been vaccinated yet, and would like to do so, you are welcome to go to your nearest vaccination facility – most are open during normal office hours between Monday and Friday, although there are also facilities available over weekends. You will however require proof of identity in order to register.

In South Africa the most commonly used vaccines are the Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer/ BioNTech vaccines which are recognised by the World Health Organisation and most other major countries.
