Think Nevada’s Burning Man festival, just in the Cape’s desert landscapes and with lots of unique local flavour. An amalgamation of art, music, performance, costume, theme camps, mutant vehicles (aka “mobile art”) and nightly conflagrations, all created by attendees – this year’s theme is “Out of the Blue”, so expect many wondrous ocean-themed artworks (and outfits). Be prepared to go off-script, off-grid and off-beat at this gathering, where you need to be totally self-sufficient but also generously share in its gift economy (the only thing that is sold here is ice!).
