On discovering a piece of land in The Crags area, with its gentle slopes and cool sea breezes, Peter found the conditions excellent for vine growth and felt inspired. The first vines, Sauvignon Blanc, were planted in 2000, pioneering the wine industry in Plett, which has subsequently been classified as a Wine of Origin region.
Since the beginning of the Plett wine story, another 16 other wine estates in the Crags and Harkerville regions have begun producing a variety of cultivars, including Cap Classique, Sauvigon Blanc and Rose. And now 200 000 bottles are produced annually! The Sauvignon Blanc is being considered equal to the one that is produced on the Malboro estates in New Zealand. It’s not ALL about wine however, there are links to a variety of attractions and unique country lodges and natural beauty along this route.
