Wesgro CEO Tim Harris said, “We hope that this decision will give DCD room to engage stakeholders and take appropriate actions to put the company in a stronger position.”
For more than 100 years DCD Marine has provided turnkey ship and rig repair solutions to the marine as well as oil and gas sectors, and has shipyard facilities in Cape Town, Walvis Bay, Saldanha, Ngqura, East London and Durban.
Economic Opportunities Minister Alan Winde added, “Through our Project Khulisa growth strategy, we are seeking to add up to a further 60 000 jobs to the oil and gas sector. While the sector has experienced challenges recently around a reduction in the number of rigs visiting local ports and the current low oil price, the broader sector has managed to attract investment which present opportunities for growth.”
Niall Kramer, the CEO of the South African Oil and Gas Alliance (SAOGA) said, “It is also important to remember that oil and gas sector is cyclical and South Africa still has a vast array of unexplored resources. With the right legislative environment in place these resources can be a big source of growth.”
We have every confidence in DCD Marine. Together with our partners at the Saldanha Bay IDZ and SAOGA, we will provide as much support as possible to DCD Marine.
