This week Wesgro Film and Media Promotion Head Monica Rorvik returned from a Cape film and media promotion mission to the 70th Cannes Film Festival and its industry market the Marche Du Film.
While at Cannes Rorvik participated in over 50 meetings and specialised industry functions to promote the Cape and secured a number of incoming scouting missions to the province from the UK, USA, Germany, Canada, France and China to name a few.
The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF)-supported South African pavilion at the festival had also curated networking events most nights, including one by the Cape Town Film Studios which had many filmmakers and producers in attendance including award winning actresses and producers Florence Masebe and Shoki Mokgapa, their counterparts from the rest of Africa as well as our global partners and co-production countries.
“That night’s speeches by the Deputy Minister in the Presidency Buti Manamela, NFVF Board member Phillip Molefe, and Cape Town Film Studio (CTFS) CEO Nico Dekker were well received, as was the amazing show reel of films shot at CTFS which showcased the Cape’s capabilities,” said Rorvik.
There were over 12 324 film professionals at this year’s festival, including over 50 South Africans, many of whom noted success regarding their film projects' development, distribution and sales.
