“Live, Work and Play in the Western Cape”
The Province of the Western Cape and Cape Town as a global destination city for tourism has grown in popularity over the past decade. This is largely due to the efforts of organisations such as Cape Town Tourism and Cape Town Routes Unlimited. The Western Cape is the main leisure tourism destination in South Africa and is home to the majority of the top tourist attractions in South Africa. These tourist attractions range from natural attractions such as Table Mountain and Cape Point to historical and cultural attractions such as Robben Island.
The Industry in Numbers:
- Official tourism statistics indicate that over 53% of all visitors to South Africa visit Cape Town and tend to stay longer here than anywhere else, with the season peaking over the summer months between November to March
- Estimates vary between ZAR10b to ZAR16b in value added services for the tourism industry (This is difficult to estimate due to the amount of business visitors who do tourist activities in Cape Town)
- The sector contributes approximately 40,000 jobs to total employment in Cape Town
- Foreign Direct Investment in the sector reached ZAR3.6bn between 2004 and 2010
Main Advantages of Investing in the Western Cape in Renewable Energy
- Good institutional as well as physical infrastructure along with a range of hotels and accommodation in the City and surrounds throughout the Province
- Cape Town and the Province of the Western Cape boasts a strong international and domestic brand as a tourism destination
