Western Africa Trade Corridor
Wesgro has been actively promoting the Western African Trade Corridor since 2004. Promoting intra-African trade is an important and on-going project that is not only conducive to business; it also promotes the strengthening of political ties and stability. The NEPAD initiative, along with the establishment of the African Union, has increased interest in trading with the continent while also beginning to lay the foundations of integration.
Many Western Cape exporters have demonstrated enthusiasm in taking advantage of business opportunities throughout Africa while many African buyers are also interested in sourcing products from the Cape. We have identified the following crucial markets, to focus on in the medium to long term:
- Angola
- Nigeria
- Senegal
- Ghana
- Cameroon
- DRC Congo
- Cote D'Ivoire
A key component of the Western African Trade corridor programme is the Western African Business Networking Forum, which is aimed at bringing together Western Cape businesses with West African business people operating in the province. In addition to networking, participants have the opportunity to learn about recent developments in the area of trade and investment in Africa from experienced speakers. The forum is also attended by representatives from some African embassies and high commissions. Please be sure to go to our events calendar to see when the next Western African Business Networking Forum will be.
