Head - Africa - International Trade & Development

All-inclusive Remuneration Market Related. (Cost to Company)

Purpose of the Job:

Execute and manage a comprehensive strategy on trade development and promotion which includes outward foreign direct investment and exports into the rest of Africa (West Africa and the East Africa and SADC regions) and position the Agency, Cape Town and the Western Cape as a competitive global business destination. This includes delivering on designated areas of responsibility as stipulated in the International Trade Promotion and Development Business Plan. 

Requirements:

Relevant business degree plus at least 5 years work experience or extensive export and business development experience. Working knowledge of South African SMME development issues · Thorough understanding of business development issues as it pertains to the South African and Africa markets · Thorough understanding of issues relating to international marketing/exports such as South African incentive schemes, non-tariff barriers to trade and foreign business cultures and their influence on the decision making process · Strong established local, international / export networks (a distinct advantage) · Contacts and networks in the respective markets will be an added advantage · Business principles that would impact on business performance such as finance, marketing and human resource development  · an African language as well as French/Portuguese would be advantageous. 

Key Competences:

Duties:

Reporting to the Head - International Trade and Development, the Africa Trade Manager will take full responsibility to: promote and facilitate exports of goods and services from qualified companies in the Western Cape ·  Define Wesgro export and outward investment clients · Facilitate and support operations and expansion of qualified Western Cape companies into the rest of Africa through investment · Identify businesses with the best growth potential for help with export activities ·  Attract and facilitate foreign buying missions · Formulate, manage and implement export facilitation and export facilitation programmes in collaboration with Wesgro’s partners · Keep abreast of export-related incentive schemes of the Department of Trade & Industry and ensure compliance with fund application processes ·  Assist and lead businesses with entry into foreign markets · Matching foreign buyers to local exporters

· Developing networks with trade stakeholders and clients (including foreign buyers), both national and internationally, with relevant partner organisations · Facilitating trade-related events (outward/inward missions, seminars and trade fair participation) for Western Cape exporters  · Ensure compliance with Wesgro’s client relationship management (CRM) and accurate evidence based reporting in-line Wesgro’s systems policy and guidelines · Contribute to  Wesgro’s media and communications objectives through media and Wesgro website contributions · Focus on quality return on investment for stakeholders by ensuring optimal budget spend and best value for money in order to achieve the department’s strategic objectives.

Project manager : Cape Town Air Access

All-inclusive remuneration package: Market Related

Purpose of the Job:

Primary purpose of this position is to execute the business plan and strategic vision of the Cape Town Air Access project. The incumbent will adopt and eventually adapt the overall project approach under the guidance of the established Steering Committee and Project Committee. The incumbent will manage the project scope, schedule and budget as well as the overall tracking and documentation. The position also entails overall stakeholder management of the project as well as collaboration across the partner teams. The position entails a strong understanding of the aviation or transport industry, which will contribute to the overall success of the project. Prepare reports and presentations on a regular bases on the Cape Town Air Access project. Weekly scan a wide variety of media sources for news that directly impacts the project. Prepare progress reports on a monthly and quarterly basis.

Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification relevant to project management. A higher qualification (Honours or Masters) that proves candidate’s ability to execute specialist projects would be highly advantageous. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in project management is a prerequisite. Experience in conducting and analysing projects is essential as well as strong analytical and report writing skills. Knowledge of government processes and protocol is advantageous. Ability to use MS Project and other MS Office applications. Exceptional and diverse writing skills. The ability to switch styles between formal reports, media releases, etc.  Very good presentation skills -the ability to understand the storyline and create effective slideshows to support it. 

Key Competences:

Develop the consolidated project plan including detailed schedule, cost estimates, resources, roles/responsibilities, communications, and risks • The Project Manager will execute against the consolidated plan for the Cape Town Air Access project. Supervise and monitor the work of external service providers in relation to the projects. Ensure distribution of project schedule and progress reports as well as presentations to all stakeholders. Record and appropriately track progress as well as implement corrective actions and escalate any matters where appropriate. Compile identified risks and issues as raised by all stakeholders and escalate where necessary. Ensure adherence to all project guidelines by all respective stakeholders and service providers. Track actions and report financials of projects accurately. Ensure adherence to the financial governance processes of the Agency. Produces well thought-out, professional correspondence free of grammatical and spelling errors. Interacts professionally with clients and associates at all times.

Availability to travel.  In addition, the ideal candidate should be an accountable individual with integrity and must be able to promote the values of the Agency.

Data analyst (Mid-level) : Project – Cape Town Air Access

Purpose of the Job:

The appointee will support the Cape Town Air Access project managers through desktop research, data analysis, report writing and preparation of presentations. The appointee will query available databases regarding historic airline traffic and analyse data to support business cases. Collaborate with partner teams to source existing data. Weekly scan a wide variety of media sources for news that directly impacts the project. Assist the project managers in preparing weekly updates, reports etc.

Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree with strong quantitative slant:  Bcom Economics, BSc Statistics; Engineering etc.  A higher qualification (Honours or Masters) that proves candidate’s ability to think, analyse and formulate independently is highly preferable.  A proven track record of work experience in fields requiring data analysis and reporting (1-3 years). Very good quantitative data analysis skills with proven experience in using commercial databases, MS Excel and any other data reporting tools e.g. Power BI, Qlikview, Tableau. Exceptional and diverse writing skills. The ability to switch styles between formal reports and media releases. Excellent presentation skills with the ability to understand the storyline and create effective slideshows to support it. An interest in the airline transportation industry and/or transport economics would be highly preferable.

Duties:

Data processing, analysis and reporting:  Querying available databases and ad-hoc data sources regarding historic airline traffic; future airline schedules and capacities; airline financials; and passenger demographics. Analysing data to support business cases; viability analyses; reports; and presentations (50%)

Desktop research, communication: Conduct research in response to research questions and queries that may arise from time to time. Reference the project archive to extract existing data. Collaborate with partner teams to source existing data. Source additional data and research. Interview relevant stakeholders. Prepare reports, briefs, draft press releases and/or presentations together with the project managers (45%)

Media scanning: Weekly scan a wide variety of media sources for news that directly impacts the project. Distribute urgent news items to relevant project personnel for their info or action (5%)

To manage the main frontline office and operate the switchboard. To promote Wesgro’s professional image to clients and public at all times.To provide exceptional customer service to internal and external clients and build relationships so that the Agency can achieve its key performance objectives, as defined in the Wesgro Business Plan.

Requirements:

- The applicant must be in possession of an appropriate qualification

- A minimum of three years’ experience in a client facing role

- Computer literacy a MUST

- Travel booking experience will be an advantage

Key Competences:

The ideal candidate should be delivery driven, excellent in both written and verbal communication, behave with integrity and produce work of exceptional quality. This includes a mix of the following skills and capabilities: problem solving and ability to meet deadlines, ability to organise and host functions/seminars and workshops, proven ability to work independently, proficiency with the MS Office suite of products, excellent time management.
