Rocking the Daisies, 5-8 October
What to expect: It’s that time of the year again! Rocking the Daisies is one of the biggest annual music festivals in the province and is as much a part of the season as the wild flowers it was named after. Expect the biggest local acts, beautiful scenery and one of the biggest music festivals (and parties) of the year.
Fisherman’s Friend Strongman Run, 14 October
What to expect: This one is for the adrenaline junkies! The Strongman is a massive obstacle course, basically an epic playground for adults, and one epic day out! There are three courses – an 8km and 15km for the mere mortals and a 21km for the elite athletes. A combination of trail running and obstacles, it’s a tough, but great day out around the beautiful town of Paarl.
Plett Vintage & Vine Festival at Luka Wine Farm, 21 October
What to expect: The Plett Vintage & Vine is the newest addition to the Mediaboxx Events #vinefest series – a soirée promising to transport you back to the golden era of vintage wheels, speakeasies, old world charm and of course lots of tipple. Daytime fun, is a family affair, with gourmet food trucks, entertainment and a vintage motorcycle and bicycle showcase. Night time brings with it adults only entertainment with swing bands, gourmand foods, gin and whiskey bars and the launch Luka’s new red.
Cape Town Flower Show, 19-22 October
What to expect: Boasting a new venue, the Grandwest Entertainment Centre, the Cape Town Flower Show looks to showcase the region’s incredible floral majesty. Cape Town is situated in the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom and the show makes good use of that to showcase the both beautiful gardens and innovative and inspirational gardening ideas.
Wine on the River, 20-22 October
Celebrate the arrival of spring in the beautiful valley of Robertson at the 12th Annual Wine on the River. Staged on the banks of the Breede River, the valley brings together its esteemed winemakers and local chefs and producers for one of the most anticipated weekends of the year. Perfect for families, the kids will be entertained in a dedicated kids’ programme, complete with boat cruises, horse and tractor rides and more.
Cape Town International Boat Show, 22 October
What to expect: If you are prone to sailing the seven seas, then the Cape Town International Boat Show is definitely for you. But even those with a passing interest in boats will have plenty to see here, with some of the best imported vessels and South Africa’s growing stable of catamarans on show, along with a huge amount of gear and equipment to ogle. So whether you are looking for an upgrade or simply dream of owning your own boat one day, put this one in your diary for October.
Overberg Fees, 27-28 October
What to expect: Hosted in the beautiful, and tranquil, Swellendam valley, the Oveberg Fees is perfect for a family getaway. The festival offers something for the kids and parents with music, sports events, food stalls and plenty of entertainment. For those looking for something more active, there will be an MTB race and trail run to keep you busy.
FNB Wines2Whales MTB & Race, 29 October – 2 November
Ending October with a bang, the FNB Wine to Whales MTB race is one of the country’s premier stage races and also one of the most popular amongst cyclists. Running through one of the most beautiful parts of the Western Cape, the race starts at Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West and finishes in Onrust three days later. There are also plenty of places for spectators to cheer on the riders, making it a great event for families looking to support their riders.
